In 2006, Aircel was acquired by Malaysia’s biggest integrated communications service provider Maxis.
It wasIndia’s fifth largest GSM mobile service provider and seventh largest mobile service provider (both GSM and CDMA) with a subscriber base of over 65.1 million. It also had the largest service in Tamil Nadu.
